Hey all!
Today's post will be about another one of my hobbies/job/passions : modelling.
I would like to start by narrating an incident that happened to me when I was fairly young (maybe, ten years old?). my mother, my sister and me were at ZARA, if I don't recall wrong, we were there to buy my sister's first prom dress. Anyhow, while my sister was trying on a bunch of dresses my mom had excitedly picked out, I put on a random pair of heels and started walking up and down the shop. It was funny actually, my mom told me it was scary to see me on that kind of shoes at such a young age; however she confessed that I could, what to say, 'pull it off'. My mom used to model in Milan, so I suppose I got it from her.
To be honest, I do not believe myself to be tall or skinny enough to be a model; but I am extremely happy I got the opportunity to model.
In my school, BIS, there were a couple of girls who were into modelling already, hence it would have been easier for me to get in touch with their agency; also, they could have given me advice on how to start and how to balance the career with my school life.
I will always remember the first time I ever worked for my agency (Prasad Bidapa Model Management): it was only a cheer leading job at the Bangalore Club but oh, how I loved getting my make up done, my hair done and working with models! I adored it and hence, I decided to go on with it and take it up seriously.
So, here I was, at the beginning of tenth grade, leaving school early to go for rehearsals and model training. I took part in the Annual Mega Model Hunt 2013 and balanced my studies with the contest. I must say, I met wonderful girls there and had a lot of fun. I was the youngest contestant - only 14 years old! However I have to say, taking part in the Mega Model Hunt was one of the first events in my life that shaped me into a responsible and organised person. During this contest I matured up: I learnt to listen, I learnt to be on time, I managed to be friends with older people and hence behave in a more adultery manner and I learnt to work under someone. More than anything, the Mega Model Hunt 2013 was the beginning of a wonderful career for me and I was SO excited when I won Best Runway model. A professional model told me I could ramp walk really well! It was all so wonderful.
As time passed, I began working more often: photo-shoots, shows and even shows abroad!I got the privilege of modelling for Roberto Cavalli, Emilio Pucci and Armani! At every modelling job I met new people, tried new clothes and always had a lot of fun. Almost everyone simply sits and watches the models walk down the ram and thinks it to be simple. It really isn't! Behind every show or shoot there is tremendous amount of work like fittings, rehearsals, choreography, hair, make up, music and, worst of all, the quick changes in between the show. However, I really really enjoy it.
Shoots allow me to act to a certain extent. The photographer requests me to express a certain emotion and I do so - even if it's being empty and dull. Modelling as a whole, has given me confidence. It has almost cancelled my stage freight and has made me self -assured. I love walking down the ramp on heels, not ashamed of how I look and not shy. I have noticed that after modelling, I feel much more secure whenever I have to talk to a big audience or when I have to jump into something that's beyond my comfort zone.
This job also helps me relax and take my mind off things. I love the long talks with the make up artists and hair stylists or the laughs with the other models. I know a lot of people may have a negative opinion of the modelling profession - some may say it's dangerous and others may say it is an unstable employment. Well, I can say that if you choose the right agency all of these problems would not exist. I cannot stress how much my agency takes care of its models. It understands that I have school and the people I work under 'protect?' me because of my young age.
To conclude, modelling has also helped me being balanced with my studies and my job and it has helped me in knowing my priorities. Many times I had to make choices between school events and shows and many times I had to give up nights out with my friends too. Many times I've had to stay up late to finish homework and yes, sometimes I've even given up on dessert after dinner.(However not too many times).
Although I am not thinking of taking up modelling professionally in the future, I am really glad I experienced it. Not only did it give me a glance at what it feels like to work; but it has also given me a lot of memories and has helped me grow up as a person.
To next Thursday!
